Things I Carry
Dear Mom and Dad,
Every step that I take I can hear my keys jingles. They weigh down my pocket as I walk. You guys gave me the car keys when you bought the car for me .
I remember the day you guys got the car for me. It was late in June, when I was at Grandmas house and dad came to pick me up. When I got in his car I asked, “Where are we going?” and he replied, “To go pick up your car.” I was so excited, I could not wait to see it. I felt like a little kid on christmas. When we got to the dealership, my dad pointed at a black car and said that it was mine. It was love at first sight. It was a black Ford Taurus, not in perfect shape, but it was a great first car.
The first drive was the best. I felt so cool driving by myself in my own car. I though how nice it was going to be to not have to worry about finding a ride if I wanted to go somewhere. If I ever need something all I have to do is pick up my keys and go. Not all of my friends have cars, I’m lucky to have my own.
I know that with great power comes great responsibility. I had to earn your trust to get the car. I have to be a responsible and safe with it. I am never irresponsible, I always drive safe and never lose my keys.
I love the feeling of having a little freedom. Having the keys to my own car is fantastic. So thats why I just wanted to say, thank you, Mom and Dad.
