Weave through all the people. Loud. Loud noises. This cafeteria is hell.
Sit down. Some loud girls come to sit at the table next to me. They’re laughing about how gross the beans are.
Ugh. Shut up.
One of them has a really bad hair dye job. Black on top, yellow on bottom. Like a bumblebee. Why would anyone do that? It looks terrible.
Bumblebee sets down her styrofoam tray. There’s a pile of nachos and a blue milk carton.
Then she stops talking and closes her eyes. She puts a loose fist on either side of her tray. And then she nods her head just the slightest little bit.
I realize she’s praying. Thanking the Lord for her food.
I smile to myself. My faith in humanity is restored.
And I feel bad for thinking her hair was ugly.
