That Forbidden Ride
Knowing you’re going to get in trouble and the time leading up to your punishment those 10 minutes can turn into hours which feel like days. It all started on a warm summer day in 2007. So I was at my grandparent’s house with my two cousins Eden and Alexis. Eden a short, blonde girl with wavy hair and flow navy blue with flowers shirts and jean shorts and Alexis only a slight bit taller than me with dark brown straight hair and a purple v-neck with jean shorts. I was much shorter that Alexis but a little bit taller than Eden.
It was a hot summer day and my parents and grandparents decided they were going to go and get lunch for everyone so my aunt who lived next door at the time was working in the yard. We were on my trampoline that we have at my grandmas. But the hot, black surface starting getting really hot from the bright sun beating on it. We had decided we wanted to go for a ride on the golf cart to my uncle’s house only a few blocks away. Uncle Kevin you see has a pool in his yard so we wanted to cool off and go in there.
Since my grandparents also have a golf cart we decided we would try to take that. So we went to go ask my aunt if she would take us to go but sadly she said she was busy in the yard. We decided that even though she told us no we would go up and down the driveway, my grandmas driveway is literally a block long we continued going up and down but we still wanted to go to the pool. So we thought that since my grandpa lets me drive on the street that I would just drive us there I mean what's the worst thing that could happen to a bunch of 10 year olds. Thinking in the back of my head that this would be good at all and we WILL get in trouble. It’s like having one of those devils on one shoulder and the angel on the other but it’s always the devil that wins. So we decided that we would start driving to his house. But things didn't go as planned my mom and grandma decided that they were going to come back when they did and saw us driving on the street. They didn't realize that it was us but when they got back to the house they realize that the golf cart and we are missing. We found out my uncle wasn't home so we decided to go back. We had that gut feeling that we were in major trouble. We drove past my aunt who couldn’t even talk to us because she was so mad and she told us that we better go put the golf cart away right away.
When we got back home we realized that my parents and grandparents had left. It was just the three of us there and so being the dumb kids we were we decided that we were for sure going to be in major in trouble so we decide to make up a dance to the song American Pie because in the song he sings “This will be the day that I die”. As crazy as it sounds it made us laugh and we weren’t as scared as we thought we should be. We ended up not getting in trouble but I for sure learned my lesson.
