“I just want to feel like everybody else.” This thought has come to my mind numerous times.

Something that I have wanted for practically my whole life is for people to accept a person with a disability for who they are, not for who they aren’t. To try and understand what it’s like to be disabled. What people don’t realize is that being accepted into social groups is very important to those who are disabled. Sometimes you wouldn’t know, but being included helps their development. Being included helps someone with a disability to interact socially and it helps them to better in school. Most often they no longer worry about being made fun of. It is also important for people to be understanding and open minded. When they are able to do this, they start to think of disabilities as a simple restriction that can’t be changed. It’s like having a phone but no charger or no battery. Being accepted allows those who are disabled to accept who they really are. They no longer have to pretend to be someone they’re not, they can be who they feel they are. Those who are disabled aren’t all that different from everybody else. Sometimes all we want is to be accepted and to feel somewhat normal. Not everybody may agree, but I feel that this is true.
