My Fearful Obstacle
“The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart”, said Helen Keller . I was in kindergarten at St. Joseph School. I was five years old and every time my class went somewhere new, I would make myself sick. Much like Helen Keller overcame the obstacle of not being able to communicate, I too overcame an obstacle of fearing anything new.
Helen Keller had to overcome the obstacle of not being able to communicate. When Helen was a baby, she got sick and became blind and deaf after her illness. The Keller’s hired Annie Sullivan to try to teach Helen how to communicate. Annie was able to teach Helen trust, obedience, and language to overcome her obstacle.
Like Helen Keller, I also had to overcome an obstacle. When I was in kindergarten, every time my class did or went somewhere new I got so scared and nervous I would make myself sick. I overcame it because my mom and dad told me about nervous tummy feelings and sick tummy feelings. I learned that nervous tummy feelings were like butterflies in your tummy and you need to tell them so it doesn't make you as nervous. Now I can go and do anything new without a problem or doubt.
Although our obstacles were different, we share a few similarities. Helen and I were both young when our obstacles happened. Another similarity is that both Helen and my family’s supported us both. Those are some of the reasons Helen`s and my obstacles share a few similarities.
Much like Helen Keller overcame the obstacle of not being able to communicate, I too overcame the obstacle of fearing anything new. What I learned from Helen’s experience is never give up on something and keep trying. Something I learned from my experience is about nervous tummy feelings and sick tummy feelings. In the lasting words of Theodore Roosevelt. “Believe you can and you are halfway there”.
