Never doubt the warning signs
Don't ever doubt the warning sign.
You know those moment when you doubt everything?Like that the oven is really hot or something is dangerous and you’re not supposed to touch it…
Yep, that was me. Sometimes I decided that ok, I won’t do that, but sometimes… kids just try it out. And often learn on their own mistakes. But don't you agree that it’s better to avoid those bruises and scars you might get? That is exactly why warning signs are on packages, doesn’t matter where: in stores, at home and even at school you should always listen to them.
One day like that, several years ago when I was about eleven-twelve years old I was in our light, and airy kitchen, looking through the stuff in one of our big maple cupboards just above the cooktop. That's where my mom stores everything that she doesn’t use often. Mostly there were just lunch boxes, candles for special occasions, lids for preserving foods, and other stuff. Then I saw a huge knife. The blade was still covered with a protective piece of cardboard. My slightly tall and slender, dark-haired, mom never wanted us to touch it. On the cardboard it said with huge letters: Caution: extremely sharp knife enclosed. I looked at it for a moment, when something says DON’T you always want to do it. So I wanted to touch it.
“I’m old enough.”
I thought to myself, probably trying to persuade that little voice inside that told me not to. I opened the knife. It was one of those knives that look really smooth and not sharp at all. So I thought about it again, it didn’t look sharp.Never mind the fact my mother who always tried to protect us, kept it closed and away from kids.
“Psh,” I started arguing, “ they always write sharp! it’s not even sharp!” “look!” I told myself and lightly slid my palm over the blade.
“Ouch!” I screamed.
My hand was in pain, the cut wasn’t deep at all but it hurt like crazy. Even my little curious sisters came running to see the cut.
“What did you do?” they were asking, full of questions.
I don’t remember if my mom got mad but as I wrapped my hand in cloth I promised myself I’m going to be more carefull next time it says “Caution”. And never again I touched the sharp part of that knife again. Before you do something that says DO NOT or that might be harmful to you, your friends or even nature, always think twice.
