A Near Death Experience
As we drove it was freezing. Mr. H was falling asleep. Mr. H looked like a bear about to hibernate. I was freezing cold. Then, we were speeding down the highway like a cheetah running after prey to the guard rail as Tristan yelled “dad wake up.”
“I’m awake!” yelled Mr. H. Sorry about that I was having a flashback. So, we were at the Mud Hens stadium. This is it is a baseball stadium in Toledo, Ohio. This team is just like the whitecaps. They’re a step down from the Detroit Tigers. It was about 10 p.m. We got back in the truck and started driving down the road.
We were about 100 miles away from Michigan - we were listening to some music and having a good time. It was Tristan, Mr. H, Joey, and I in the car. I was sitting in the back seat behind Mr. H who was driving. We have been driving for about an hour or so. The song we were listening to was “Holy Grail”.
Let's skip ahead a little, so we’re about an hour or so away from home. Joey is asleep and I'm almost there too. All of a sudden I feel rumblestrips. Mr. H fell asleep.
“Dad wake up!” Tristan Yelled.
“I’m awake!” he yelled.
Joey woke up and said, “what happened?”
“We almost died”, I said.
“How?” Joey said.
“We almost ran right through that guard rail,” I said.
“And then we would have fell out of the sky onto the other traffic down below,” Tristan explained.
“I am really glad I was sleeping,” Joey said.
“yah I would be too,” I said.
“Same here,” Tristan said.
“Just go back to sleep Joey,” Mr. H said.
“I bet you wish you could dad,” Tristan nagged
“Oh just be quiet Tristan. Nobody asked for your input,” said Mr. H.
“Okay I’m going back to sleep,” said Joey
“Okay goodnight Joey,” said Tristan.
“Well please don’t fall back asleep Mr. H. I don’t wanna die today,” I say to everyone.
“Yah,” said Tristan. Tristan turned up the air conditioning all the way and turned the radio up super loud. That is what kept Mr. H from falling asleep. It was as cold as ice in the truck. I was covered up with a very thin blanket that was as thin as a piece of paper.
We finally got back to Tristan’s house, and we tell his mom what happened. She freaked out and told us next time to get a hotel room. Once we all settled down we had some ice cream before bed. After that joey went to bed in his room. At this point it was like five in the morning. So, Tristan and I went in the basement and started watching Drake & Josh until we fell asleep. That's how it all happened; That's how I almost died. The lesson I learned in this is if you ever travel out of state and come home at a late time. So if you ever go to a nighttime baseball game out of state get a hotel room so you do not fall asleep while driving down the road and almost crash and die.
