The Day I Got The Cops Called On Me
“Wait, you called the cops!?” It seemed like the worst day of my life, the day I got the cops called on me.
I was riding my skateboard around the parking lot at millennium park like I did every day in the summer since earlier in the summer they redid the whole parking lot and replaced the old dried up, cracked cement with smooth blacktop. it was also nice because it didn't have a no-skateboarding rule hanging above it. the parking lot was like a giant frying pan that day from the sun heating up the pavement, but I didn't mind. Since I went there every day some of the people who walk their dogs there recognized me and waved to me when they walked by even though we didn't know each other.
I was ready to go home since it was about 6:30 in the afternoon and 7:30 was my curfew but I decided to stay for another half an hour since there was still a decent amount of sunlight. I decided to try and grind the bench so a grabbed my skate wax out of my bag and started waxing it. It was easier to was it since it was rubbing a candle on a hot piece metal. When I was finished and was ready to grind it there was a small group of kids closely watching my every movement with fascination. The first time I attempted to grind the bench I wiped out which discouraged me a little bit and the flock of small children but after 1 or 2 tries I did it with ease but while I was talking to another kid my age I didn't notice the woman in the large black escalade pulling in the parking lot behind me while I was talking to the her ...WHAT ARE YOU DOING!!!! I heard behind me YOU ARE DESTROYING PRIVATE PROPERTY!!, huh? I exclaimed “what are you talking about”? I said as I turned around to see who it was I seen it was a wrinkly, old, woman screaming at me “You know exactly what I'm talking about young man!!” she shrieked “no I really don't lady, how about you calm down for a minute?” I said stuttering out of fear “I AM CALM,YOU HOOLIGAN” she yelled. I giggled she must be really old, no one says ‘hooligan’ anymore I thought to myself. My thoughts were interrupted by a loud “IM CALLING THE COPS! if you don't leave right now!!” she said. “this is a public park lady I didn't do anything wrong” I stated.
“Well it's too late for that now don't you think” she said “WAIT YOU CALLED THE COPS” I screamed, my voice cracked by I was to angry to care. God my parents are going to kill me-I'm such an idiot what do I do, What do I do? I'm screwed I am soooo screwed I thought to myself. I realized I couldn't do anything anymore so I sat down on the bench and waited “what a wonderful way to spend my summer vacation, sitting on a bench waiting for the cops to come. fun” I muttered to myself what seemed like hours passed before the cops came. when they left their car. there was a heavy awkwardness filling the air around us like smoke from a campfire. “So what seems to be the problem ma’am?” the police officer said “This boy was destroying private property!” she stated. “Ma’am you do know this is a public park?” he returned “well of course I do officer it says it right there on that sign but I don't see how that's relevant he was still destroying property” she said. Ma’am we actually welcome skateboarding at our parks because it gives us more people at our parks. “but officer” she stuttered.”Um ma'am we're actually gonna need you at the station” he said. Why? she said “Well
ma’am you called the cops for an unnecessary reason, you're going to have to pay a fine back at the station” he said. “but that's not against the law” she replied. “just be at the station by 2:00 pm ma’am” he said while walking towards the police vehicle.
That day I learned about the important life lesson of the “boy who cried wolf”
because, the woman tried to call the cops on me and get me in trouble even though she was the one really doing wrong and when the cops came they ignored me and took her to the station instead of me and I learned the life lesson that you should treat others how you want to be treated. In that situation she treated me like a criminal so she got treated like a criminal too.
