Why We Lie.
Why We Lie.
We lie to make ourselves feel better.
We lie to cover the truth.
And sometimes we feel as if lying is the only option we have.
Because frankly, the truth hurts. A lot.
Receiving the truth, the absolute, whole truth feels like a million knifes stabbing you in the back, it feels like a black hole, deep in the center of your chest. Pure emptiness.
The truth feels like nothing.
I’m assuming that’s why he did what he did.
He wanted me to feel every last bit of the god-awful truth to make me fully understand. So I wouldn’t be left just wondering. Wondering if he lied; if he lied straight through eyes and ears all the way to the pit of my heart.
“I don’t love you anymore”.
Just thinking of those five cold words makes me want to carve a hole in my chest and rip my heart out.
That’s why I think most people lie. Most people lie because we think it will protect the ones we love.
Only the damaged will tell the truth.
But for the untroubled and undismayed ones, they cover up the bitter truth; they think no one will get hurt, because they’ve never been hurt by the truth.
But in the end, it seems as if someone always gets hurt.
