My struggles with baseball
Everyone has that one thing in their life that they have always loved and always will love. No matter if that is a thing, person, or a place everyone has something. That thing for me has always been baseball. Even in the first picture taken of me after I was born I was wearing a onesie covered in baseballs and holding a sign that read
“Welcome to the world little slugger”
I was literally born to play baseball. But there has been times in my life that I wasn’t sure if I wanted to keep going…
I've been playing baseball since I was 5 years old and I've always loved it. I was always pretty good at it and I always had fun. But I’ve had my struggles. By the time I turned 16 I was playing on one of the best teams in the country, the coach didn’t know me well enough and I never played. It really ruined my confidence and my passion to play the sport. Soon after that season I started my winter workouts and began training. That spring I made the highschool varsity baseball team, which helped boost my confidence and my playing abilities. Although I didn’t play much that year I still had fun with all of my friends and I played enough to be satisfied.
That summer kind of started the same way, I loved playing with my friends but again I just felt really away from the game. I had gone into some sort of depression where I felt like baseball was sort of killing me. I was taking the game for granted and I wasn’t taking it all in.
I've had two coaches that really deepened my love for the game. And the second one helped me get back into the game. I started playing more and getting back into the swing of things. I began to realize how much I loved baseball and I was glad I haven’t quit yet. That summer season was one of the best seasons I have had since I was 13. Since then I have sort of taken a break from the sport for a few months and I'm eager to start again. However I realized that this could be my last year to play this sport. I am awaiting college offers but as of right now this could be my last year.
Although a very terrifying thought It will have to happen eventually. Eventually I will have to face the end of my baseball career, I am not sure what I'm going to do with all of my time when that day comes, but for now I am still in the game. Baseball has been my life, it has been the only thing I have stuck with my whole life and I have loved it. It has taught me many life lessons. When I am hitting I must wait for the perfect pitch to hit, just like in life you must show patience to get what you want. Also on the baseball field you must trust your pitcher to throw strikes, you must also trust your fielders to field the balls hit to them, and lastly you must trust your catcher to block all of the balls thrown at him. Just like in life you must trust others to do their job so you can do your own.
