Frozen moments
I take the sign from my third base coach. I step back in the box, bases loaded, tie game,2 outs, bottom of 9th inning, state championship game. It's a night game under the lights, the coolest thing as a kid. A nice cool breeze with dirt in the air, along with that there is a lot of tension, it almost feels like I'm being pulled away from the box and being told not to mess up. I have a 2-1 count so I know a fastball is coming, he winds up for the pitch. I was right, it was a fastball and one down the middle at that. When I was waiting for it to come in the ball looked like a huge beach ball flying right into the zone , I found the barrel of the bat. It was nice and loud to let everyone know, it ended up going into the right-center gap. Coach screaming to go home and score the run. I was sprinting as fast as I could out of pure adrenaline. The winning run comes in to score for the win, I felt like a MLB player coming in clutch for his team in the World Series. It was like a dream that kids have, the perfect setup, the perfect execution. Teammates, coaches, parents shouting and cheering for the win. We all meet at home plate and have a dog pile. After a little celebration we line up at home plate again super antsy and excited to see what they look like. and receive our first place rings and the 1st place statue for display. Coach gives us a huge talk about how that was the best baseball he has ever seen and how we are the team to remember. After the talk we all know what's next to say…”TEAM DINNER AND BDUBS!”
