2024 NFL Draft
The first round of the NFL draft took place on Thursday, April 25th. Six quarterbacks were selected in the first 12 rounds, making history. Caleb Williams was selected first overall, as many predicted about a year ago. He is a quarterback for the University of Southern California. The Chicago Bears were in severe need of a quarterback after battling with Justin Fields in recent years. Caleb Williams is a generational talent, and the Bears have him. The second choice went to the Washington Commanders, who were likewise in need of a reliable quarterback. They ultimately chose Jayden Daniels, the Heisman Trophy winner. This was an excellent choice for them. He is an excellent thrower who can be dynamic when needed. He will fit in nicely with the Commanders' offense, which developed this offseason. The Patriots had the third pick, and they were similarly in severe need of a quarterback. The last season was difficult. They took Drake Maye from UNC. This was an excellent pick-up to replace the quarterback need, but the rest of the offense still has to improve. Arizona was on deck with the fourth pick. They had a decent quarterback, but he didn't have anyone to throw to, so they matched him up with Marvin Harrison Jr. He is by far the top wide receiver in this draft. This was an excellent choice for them to start developing their offense around him and quarterback Kyler Murray. The fifth selection was questionable. The Chargers selected Joe Alt as an offensive lineman. While it is beneficial for the Chargers to protect their quarterback, but he has no one to throw to because the Chargers traded all of their great wide receivers. Their offense is skeptical. With the sixth choice, the Giants selected Malik Nabers, the second-best wide receiver in the draft. They are working on a rebuild; hence, this will really benefit the squad. At the seventh pick, the Titans selected an offensive tackle, JC Latham. This was an alternatively solid choice. It will help protect their quarterback and allow him more time to move the ball out of the pocket. This will fit great with their offensive additions. The ninth choice was really shocking. The Falcons had already signed their quarterback through free agency in the summer, but they chose Michael Penix Jr.. It was anticipated that he would be selected in the early second round. He is also older than the other quarterbacks. On the plus side though, they can develop him behind their established quarterback, Kirk Cousins. The Bears got another pick at number nine, which was a bit surprising. They ended up selecting the best available wide receiver left in the draft, Rome Odunze. This was ideal for them. The Bears continue to improve their roster and help develop their next-generation quarterback. At the tenth choice, the Vikings selected J.J. McCarthy, the State Championship champion. This was a terrific choice because he would now be paired with the Vikings' best wide receiver. The Jets had the tenth pick. They are coming off a season that saw their Hall of Fame quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, suffer a season-ending injury. The Jets considered this and opted to choose someone who would protect Rodgers. They picked Olu Fashanu, a Penn State offensive lineman. This was a great pickup for them. At the twelfth pick, the Broncos selected quarterback Bo Nix from Oregon. Given that they didn't yet have their number one guy, this was a wonderful match. The Raiders had the thirteenth pick. They selected Brock Bowers, the number one tight end in the draft, from Georgia. This was an excellent choice for them to help their quarterback grow and throw more. With the fourteenth choice, the Saints selected Tailese Fuaga. This was a questionable choice. They needed to fill several positions with outstanding players, but the defensive tackle was a good choice. With the fifteenth pick, the Colts selected UCLA's Laiatu Latu, Edge. This was a great choice for them. They have a young squad growing on offense, so this was a terrific addition to the defense. With the sixteenth choice, the Seattle Seahawks selected Byron Murphy II, a defensive lineman from Texas. This was a decent choice. The Seahawks defense is already really outstanding, and their offense might benefit from a bit of help, but it is fairly good with players who are still developing. Overall, it was a positive addition to the team. With the seventeenth pick, the Minnesota Vikings selected Edge, Dallas Turner, from Alabama. They traded up for this pick to add another excellent player to the roster. He also played in the National Championship. The Bengals selected Amarius Mims, an offensive lineman from Georgia, with the eighteenth pick. This was an excellent selection to help their quarterback, Joe Burrow, who had been banged up during the season. The Rams acquired a competitive edge with the nineteenth pick, Jared Verse. This was an excellent pick for them. The team's offense was solid last year, and this is an excellent upgrade to their defense. The Steelers selected Troy Fautanu, a guard/tackle, with the twentieth pick. This choice is a suitable addition to the Steelers' roster, although the squad as a whole is not terrific. They still have some gaps to fill, but this choice is still great. With the twenty-first pick, the Dolphins selected Chop Robinson. He's an edge from Penn State. This was a wonderful decision for them. The Dolphins struggled against competitive teams last season, so maybe this choice will improve their defense. With the twenty-second pick, the Eagles selected cornerback Quiyon Mitchell from Toledo. This was a smart move for them because they had a poor defense in the previous few games, so continuing to improve the defense was an excellent choice. With the twenty-third pick, the Jaguars moved up and selected wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. from LSU. This was a fantastic pick for them. This season, their young quarterback, Trevor Lawrence, struggled, but perhaps he can work well with the rookie. The Detroit Lions selected Terrion Arnold with the twenty-fourth overall pick. They traded up for the pick. This was a fantastic choice that was well worth trading up for. He's a cornerback from Alabama. Last season, the Lions made a surprising playoff run before losing to the 49ers. This is an excellent addition to the team that will help them advance farther in the playoffs. With the twenty-fifth pick, the Packers selected Jordan Morgan, an offensive lineman from Arizona. This was the right decision for the Packers. Jordan Love, who had been stuck behind Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers, finally got his shot and had an amazing season, defeating the Dallas Cowboys in the first round of the playoffs. This is certainly a beneficial addition to the team, protecting their quarterback in the pocket. With the twenty-sixth selection, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected Graham Barton from Duke. This was clearly not the best decision for them. The squad had several different options, but they chose a center in the first round. A questionable choice. With the twenty-seventh pick, the Cardinals selected Darius Robinson, a defensive end from Missouri. This was an ideal decision for them. They already had an excellent addition to their offense; now they have added another element to their defense. With the twenty-eighth selection, the Kansas City Chiefs selected Xaiver Worth, a wide receiver from Texas. The Chiefs made an excellent move when they traded up for this pick. Worthy is the quickest receiver in the draft, and teamed with three-time Super Bowl winner Patrick Mahomes, the league may see a three-peat. All NFL fans were outraged that Buffalo would allow the Chiefs to have Worthy. With the twenty-ninth selection, the Cowboys selected Tyler Guyton, an offensive lineman from Oklahoma. The Cowboys have very talented players in most areas; they are already a loaded team, but this is an exceptionally good choice. The Baltimore Ravens selected cornerback Nate Wiggins from Clemson with the thirty-first pick. This was an excellent choice for them. The Ravens had an incredible season, but they were eliminated from the playoffs by the Chiefs. With Nate Wiggins joining their defense, they now have a top cornerback in the draft. It undoubtedly benefited them. With the thirty-first selection, the 49ers selected Ricky Pearsall, a wide receiver out of Florida. This was a reasonable choice, given that they were loaded in every position. Their wide receivers, one and two, are both fantastic, so it's a solid choice for them to add to their superstar lineup. With the final choice of the first round, the Carolina Panthers selected Xavier Legette, a wide receiver from South Carolina. This was a wonderful choice for them. They needed to cover a variety of positions, but most importantly, they needed to get their offense going and match him with last year's first overall choice, Bryce Young. As the weakest team in the NFL last season, they received the final choice in the first round. According to Gennaro Filice and Nick Shook, the Pittsburgh Steelers had the top overall draft, followed by the Bears, Eagles, Chargers, and Cardinals.
