Coaching Basketball
What obstacles or challenges have you faced or overcome in your life?
3-11 is not a record a competitive athlete is proud of but my players were far from competitive. I wanted to coach eighth grade basketball because I love basketball and I love to be competitive. After the first week of practice I learned that the kids here did not show up because they want to win basketball games. They just wanted to play. This was difficult for me to handle I have never been around a team that wasn’t concerned about winning. I had to change practice we stopped doing ball handling and defensive drills and started scrimmaging for half of the practice. That started to bother me because I felt like I should be doing more to make these kids better basketball players. At the end of the year though after we lost our final game I was thanked by my whole team for allowing them to just go out there and play and having a fun year.
