Live While We're Young [Liam Payne/One Direction]
Author's note: I got inspiration for writing this one day when I was listening to "Life While We're Young" by One Direction.
~*Kaitlynn's P.O.V.*~
Three Years Ago
I woke up to the sound of birds chirping, and sunlight falling in across me from the window. I looked up to see the familiar face of my boyfriend Liam, who I was lying on top of. We had just a thin sheet covering both of our bare bodies from the previous night. It was wrinkled, and was half off of the bed. God, what did we do?
"Liam, what are you doing?" I asked while watching Liam reached his large, manly hand down to pick up a split-end piece of my soft brown waves. He slowly curled it around his finger before releasing it and letting it fall back onto my chest, just below my bust.
"What's it look like I'm doing?" he asked while grinning at me. I couldn't help but laugh at a little at his response.
"You’re lucky I love you," I replied while leaning up, being careful to keep the sheet tucked neatly around my body, and kissing his soft lips. "You taste good," I mumbled against his lips as they moved in sync. I pulled away slowly and looked at the clock to the right of me to see it was ten o'clock. "Crap. Liam, I have to go!" I exclaimed while jumping hurriedly off of him. I scoured the floor looking for my clothes and other things I brought with me.
"Babe, the chair," Liam told me while putting his left leg into the left pant leg of his pants. He proceeded to do the same with the right, before pulling them up to his waist. "Why the rush?" he asked while I pulled my white bra and white lace undies on.
"I was supposed to meet up with Ceri," I replied while pulling on my little white dress that had a white flower on the bust, before slipping my jean jacket over my shoulders. "Have you seen my boots?" I urgently asked while searching around the room cluttered in papers, clothes, and Liam's things. I soon got on my hands and knees looking over the floor and under different things like books, clothes, food, anything really.
I finally found them under the bed, along with my cowgirl hat, stashed in a box full of colored pencils and Sharpies. I quickly plopped the hat onto my head which made my hair fly out in every direction, and slid on my brown boots, which covered my feet fully and made them look slimmer.
"Babe, calm down. Just text her and tell her you're running behind. Besides, we need to talk," he spoke without putting much emotion behind his words. He started to fidget with his fingers at first, then started to pace. Eventually he stopped though.
"Talk about what?" I asked while walking over to the bed and sitting down. I felt my pulse quicken, scared of what Liam was going to say.
"I'm leaving," he rushed out quickly. My jaw dropped instantly. I couldn't believe he was leaving. "I'm going to try out for the X-Factor," he concluded. Why hadn't he told me sooner?
"How long?" I choked out. He just shrugged his shoulders before sitting down beside me. I sighed, wondering what was going to happen now. But Liam beat me to it before I could speak.
"There's something else," he blurted. I twirled a piece of my brown locks around my finger, waiting patiently for him to go on. "I don't think we should be together."
My heart instantly felt like it was shattered into a million pieces at this statement and I felt tears threatening to fall from my eyes. "Why?" I sobbed.
"Because I don't know how long I'll be gone and I don't think long distant relationships work well. They just fall apart. I think it's better if we just end it. And if I do come back and we still feel the same, we can get back together," he continued on.
"When are you leaving?" I asked, dreading to know the answer. I was expecting at least a week or so before he would leave, but no. It was worse.
"Tomorrow," he answered without looking up at me. He had been keeping this from me for a while then.
"And you choose to tell me this now, just after we had sex?" I shouted at him as I stood up and walked in front of him. I rested my hands on my hips, and I had a mad look on my face.
"I-I'm sorry," he stuttered on his words. I couldn't believe he would do this to me; to us.
"I don't want to hear it. I never want to see you again! I hate you Liam Payne," I spat at him before running out with tears streaming down my face. I had no clue what I was doing, or where I was going, but I needed to get away.
I let my feet carry me at a high speed before I stopped in front of that all too familiar house. I knocked three times on the cherry oak door before it opened to reveal the familiar face of Ceri.
"Ohmigod. Kaity, are you okay? Hun, why are you crying?" she asked me while I had tears running down my cheeks and soaking my dress.
"Liam," I sobbed. Ceri quickly pulled me into a hug before ushering me inside and closing the door behind me. I made my way into the kitchen and looked at the light blue wallpaper surrounding me. It was as if I was in the sky and flying. It'd feel great just to be able to fly away.
"Hun, he's not worth it," Ceri told me as she walked into the room. I noticed she had on a pair of grey jogging pants and a plain white tank top. She was going with the lazy look today. She even had her hair up in a messy bun.
"But he should have told me he was leaving! Worse yet, he broke up with me," I blurted before leaning my head down and resting it on top of the table in front of me. I pulled out a brown, faded wood chair, and sat down.
"Wait. He's leaving? Since when?" she asked. So apparently she didn't know either.
"He's going on the X-Factor. And I have no clue. All I know is he's leaving tomorrow and I may never see him again," I blubbered. I looked around the room, evading Cheri’s eyes. I knew what she was going to ask next, I just didn't want to face the truth.
"Did you two have sex before you broke up?" and when she asked it, I completely broke down in tears. I tried so hard to hold them back, but I couldn't. It was like a full on rain storm on Car’s table because it was getting soaked in my tears.
I few fell on my lips and I got the familiar taste of salt on my tongue. "That's just low," Ceria commented. I started laughing at that. "Why are you laughing?" she asked me, astounded.
"Never mind. But yes, we did. We've done it before!" I exclaimed while picking my head up to look her straight in the face.
"Well I figured. You've been doing it for the last few weeks! Please tell me you two used protection?" she frantically asked. I nodded my head, sure we had. I always reminded him about it, and he was normally smart about all that stuff.
"Well, what do I do now?" I asked, eager to find out what to do. I honestly had no clue what was going to happen or what I was to do. There didn't seem to be any answer.
"Move on," she told me plainly. Of course she would be the one to come up with a reasonable one.
"Fine. So, what do you want to do?" I asked since I was super bored.
"How about some chick flicks and ice cream?" I nodded my head eagerly in agreement. We made our way into the living room and sat down on the couch. Ceri stood up and picked out the movie Titanic and put it in the DVD player.
While we watched the movie we ate our ice cream and cried. Once it was over, we were hugging each other and wailing about Jack being let go. "Well, I should get going. It's getting late," I said while standing up.
"You can stay here tonight. I won't mind," Ceri told me while getting up off the couch. "Seriously Kaitlynn, it's fine," she told me before walking to the kitchen with the ice cream.
"Fine. Guest bedroom?" I asked. She nodded her head before I made my way upstairs. I stopped in front of the wooden door, before pushing it open causing it to make a loud creaking noise. As I walked in, I noticed the walls were a pale green color, and it was peeling off at the edges. The bed was covered in purple sheets and had a few pillows scattered across it.
The room looked pretty normal with a closet, desk, dresser, television, and other stuff like that. I walked to the side of the bed and pulled the covers back before climbing in. Within seconds, I was sound asleep.
***
The next morning when I woke up, I went downstairs and found Ceri making eggs. I walked into the room wearing my clothes from yesterday. I glanced at the clock to see it was ten o'clock A.M.
"Good morning," I told her happily as I sat down at the table. She didn't reply; she just kept staring at the eggs cooking before her. Once the eggs were done, she put them on a white plastic plate and placed it in front of me.
When the smell of the food got up into my nose, I felt a churning sensation in my stomach erupt. Without stopping myself, I jumped out of my seat and ran to the bathroom. I got on my knees in front of the toilet and puked out the food I had just eaten yesterday.
I felt someone’s hand lift up my hair, which I figured was Ceri, while I puked out my guts. Once I was done, I stood up and wiped my mouth. I asked Ceri for a toothbrush to brush my teeth and she got me one right away. It was blue and white striped, which made me laugh for some odd reason.
"You feel okay?" Ceri asked me while I brushed my teeth. I just shrugged; almost sure I was fine earlier. It was like the smell of food repulsed me. And that was weird because I loved to eat.
"When's Kailee coming over?" I asked while putting my toothbrush in the cupboard above the sink. I walked back to the kitchen and sat down.
"She should be here soon," she told me before sitting down beside me. And as soon as she did, the doorbell rang. "I'll get it," she said before getting up and walking to the door. I listened closely as she opened the door and talked to the person outside. I soon realized it was Kailee, and ate quicker.
Once I finished eating my food and threw my plastic plate away and walked over to Kailee. "Hey Kai," I told her while grinning. She pulled me into a quick hug before saying hello back. We all made our way back to the kitchen and sat together at the table.
"So did Kaitlynn sleep over tonight?" Kailee asked while looking at her blue painted fingers. I observed her outfit choice, and liked what I saw. She had on a pair of jean high waisted shorts, and a pink crop top. She matched it with a pair of black converse. She had her brown hair up in a high ponytail, and was just wearing eyeliner which made her hazel eyes stand out.
"Yeah. I came over for comfort since Liam broke up with me," I finished with a sigh before looking at the ground.
"He left already," Kailee told me quickly. "He got mad at me this morning for being moody," I just laughed with her.
"Oh, I got sick today. I don't know why. I was fine earlier," I said while thinking about what could of been wrong.
"Oh, well you're lucky. I woke up with my period," Kailee rushed out before getting up. Suddenly it hit me. I missed my period.
"I'm late," I said barely above a whisper. Kailee and Ceri just stared at me.
"Late for what?" Ceri finally spoke up. I looked over at the two of them, fear probably evident in my eyes.
"My period. Its two weeks late," I replied while keeping my gaze locked on the salt shaker in front of me. This just couldn't be happening. Not now.
"You don't think you could be pregnant, do you? I mean, you used protection. Right?" I nodded my head along with their words.
"I'm on the pill too," I told them before standing up. "I'm just going to make sure," I rushed out before running from Ceri's home.
As soon as I walked outside, I made my way down the sidewalk and to the drugstore at the corner of the street. As I went inside, I walked over to where the pregnancy tests were. I saw a woman who looked to be in her thirties, standing there looking at all the test. When she saw me, she gave me a disgusted face. I cringed, figuring I would get that considering I was only fifteen.
I tried my best to ignore her as I picked up the first box I saw. I ran to the cashier and quickly paid for the tests and ran out of the store as fast as my legs would carry me. Without stopping, I ran the whole way back to Ceri's house.
"Got it," I blurted as I walked inside. The both immediately rushed to me as I briskly walked to the bathroom.
"We'll be out here," they told me in unison. I just nodded my head, before walking into the bathroom. I took the box and ripped it open to reveal to pregnancy sticks. I pulled down my underwear and sat on the toilet before peeing onto both sticks.
Once I was done, I finished my business and stood up. I opened the bathroom door to let Kailee and Ceri inside. I set a timer for three minutes, and turned towards them. "I'm scared," I admitted through a few tears. My future would change drastically in just a few minutes if there were two pink bars on those tests.
"Don't be. Whatever happens, were always here for you," they told me before pulling me into a hug. Just as I pulled away, the timer went off.
"Here goes nothing," I said quietly before picking up the tests. When I looked at them, the tears just fell. I turned towards Kailee and Ceri and whispered those two words I dreaded to ever hear myself say at such a young age. "I'm pregnant."
