As I scroll through Facebook, articles on the Syrian conflict flood my news feed: “Syria chemical attack: what we know”; “22 children dead in syria school bombing”; “starvation in Syria ‘A war crime’.” These are the headlines that have not left my mind and had not left my feed in years. They deem it a developing situation each time it makes CNN headlines, but in reality its become embedded and has been for years. So why is it continuing to show itself on my feed I ask… Maybe because it's been ignored for far to long. “Something out of my power” I tell myself. As a matter of fact I can probably speak for the thousands who drop the angry or sad reaction  yet continue to scroll. It’s easy to ignore something so important yet so small to many eyes, such as an article about people who live life everyday in fear yet they are across the world so why does it matter? But once it comes up again and again and doesn't stop it's not so easy to be ignored. Each day in the middle east and third world countries surrounded by war thousands of innocent peoples safe havens and homes become their graves. In Syria specifically the innocents are massacred by their own government; lives of children are stipped for them, leaving parents scarred in disbelief. It is truly and utterly a nightmare to even believe being in these people shoes, in the shoes of mothers who can do nothing but pray their children would survive the night, the shoes of children who worry of their next meal rather than the school work they should be doing but can't because their once so called school has been turned into rubble. Too many heads are being turned from this issue and with the help of spreading awareness and pressuring world leaders to help end this crisis it can go a long way. I truly believe that these people need us now more than ever and my hope is that one day the gut wrenching news articles become a lesson learned.
