In 2014 there was a shooting that killed over 17 young men and women. Since this day gun violence has turned into a day to day issue in different parts around Oakland  

 Gun violence brings tragedy to Oakland but can be reduced with a number of ways. For example, law enforcement should do Consent Search to define if the owner of the firearm is qualified to own it. Our government should also change the Second Amendment right to bear arms and find a way to get firearms out the hands of people who are in high-risk to commit a crime. Lastly, we should band military-style weapons and high capacity magazines.  

 There have been at least more than one death a day that has been committed by a firearm in separate parts of Oakland. “ there are 1-16 shootings a day in or in the surroundings of Oakland”-Oakland north.

This matters because in these shootings that are caused by guns 1-4 people die out of 16 or more.  

 My Second reason is that the second amendment was made in 1789 and since then many things have changed about our firearms.”A standard musket would shoot 4 rounds a minute in the 1800s now a standard Ar shoots over 400 rounds per minute” -Dan Nott. This matters because our weapons are getting more and more powerful which means it regards more rules.    

  My third reason is to ban military-style weapons. “ almost all mass shootings last year were caused by the AR 15’’-ABC news. This matters because this is a militarized weapon that can shoot 400 rounds per minute.     

 My first solution is a consent search. “Parents of high-risk youth would give police permission for firearms there child might have”-crime reduction. This matters because it's like taking away lethal weapons from our future. My second solution is too strong more advanced laws. For example, the second amendment was made in 1789 that was made roughly 200 years ago when the musket shot only 4 rounds per minute. This matters because a modern assault rifle shoots over 400 rounds per minute.  My third and final solution is to banned military-style firearms.”30,000 people die a year by military or military style firearms”. This matters because these people were killed by military style weapons.

Therefore, gun violence brings tragedy to Oakland and could be prevented by a variety of ways. This is important because people in our community have been harmed or affected by gun violence.
