How would you feel if one of your daughters had been raped and wanted an abortion? But because of new laws trying to be put in place that would prevent her from doing so. Women should have the right to make choices for their bodies, no matter the circumstance. Many people think abortion is murder and are against it and everyone is entitled to their own opinion. However, no one should have control over anyone else's body.

Under the “Alabama Human Life Protection Act,” performing an abortion would result in a Class A Felony and could lead up to a life sentence in prison. Other states such as Louisiana are trying to make laws similar to those of Alabama, such as the heartbeat bill. Including Alabama, other states such as Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, and Ohio will not allow abortions for rape victims or incest. That is wrong; rape victims should be trying to move past the terrible experiences from the past and not be forced to live with something conceived from it.

Many people say that you can simply deliver the child and then put it up for adoption. While this appears to be a sensible option, adoption is often a long and strenuous process. According to adoptionnetwork.com “There are 107,918 foster children eligible for and waiting to be adopted.” That is a huge number. Also, the wait time is normally anywhere between two and seven years for a healthy infant. Many who were put up for adoption often spend time in foster care. Foster care has many negative effects to it, such as abuse, neglect, and lack of safety. childrensrights.org “On any given day, there are nearly 443,000 children in foster care in the United States. In 2017, more than 690,000 children spent time in U.S. foster care.”

That is a ridiculous number.

Back in January 1973, the Supreme Court issued a decision that women in the United States have the fundamental right to choose whether or not to have an abortion. This law should stay intact, giving women the right to make decisions for their bodies.
