I believe that war only brings harm, and there are other, more reasonable ways. War is fighting because of land/resources, inequality, religious beliefs, or self defense, and I am here to tell you why that is completely unnecessary.

Fighting over land and resources should not exist because countries should be more open to each other. We should spread resources more equally, based completely on expertise, rather than location or circumstance. The Earth is where we live, and we do not have to overcomplicate it (like we do with everything) and separate it any more than we need to. We do not need to share government and religious beliefs, but this problem would be solved if we were to share resources and territory.

Despite these differing beliefs, I think that there are things that everyone should agree on: equal rights. Common sense should be telling us that everyone is equal, because we are all humans, though we specialize in different things. This is the way it has always been, because nature has decided that it works best. We should agree about these simple facts, yet so many people seem to argue that this just isn’t true. People being used as slaves could be our citizens, doing their part for the world in a much more humane way. Definitely different from war, slavery is worse, because the enslavers have already won, yet they are still treating slaves badly, along with the more obvious problems. Slaves of America learned to cope with their hardships through religion, and we should not try to ruin that either.

We should not fight over religious beliefs because it simply isn’t affecting us, unless people rule through religion, but they shouldn’t do that. They should leave politics and religion separate, because they have nothing to do with each other, so there is no good reason for them to be connected. Many people are willing to fight because of the threat to their religion, but protection can be achieved in many ways besides violence, such as a peace treaty or non-lethal defense.

Sometimes people do fight out of self defense, but we still shouldn’t have to kill people to do so. If everyone thinks that they are fighting out of self defense, then they are all just killing people because they think they are protecting themselves by doing this, but they are really just harming the Earth as a whole.

War can destroy countries, despite the common underestimation. Along with close calls such as Russia’s near collapse with World War I, many countries have been completely destroyed because of war, from Athens to the Republic of Formosa and many native American tribes in between. These were among the most peaceful and art-oriented civilizations of history, and the world would have been completely different, likely better, if they were still in it.

All of these consequences are reasons why we cannot resort to war so often. We cannot even consider it as an option unless our livelihood is in mortal danger. Some presidents have caused war and others have learned to avoid it at all costs, and you can see through history what has resulted.

I believe that war can be used as an absolute last resort. I must do, as my grandfather is a veteran. However, I feel that I must share this information to bring to light the desparation on the other side of war, the side of effects rather than cause.
