A popular fallacy in the field of politics is the ascription of personality to policy, and the subsequent policy ascribed to people. With the degradation of American culture, and loss of a common set of beliefs and the political landscape, we secularize governmental and economic systems, hoping to make sense of it all without admitting to a deeper set of beliefs. Upon choosing our “-ism” to idolize (because of the absence of a real God), we crown it with personality traits, and treat it like a little brother. When anyone accuses him of having any faults, we further venerate our friendly companion by defending him to no end, focusing exclusively on the structure’s features, making no mention of the values needed to maintain the moral functioning of said system. What will come next is an inspection of capitalism functioning in a valueless society. If we don’t re-inculcate American Judeo-Christian morals back into every aspect of common society, this is where our economic practices are going.

 Capitalism is not a living entity. While factors like the “invisible hand” certainly give an aspect of consciousness, without a societies’ belief in a concrete moral code, or a higher power, not only capitalism, but all other governmental and societal structures are weaponized. Critics of capitalism don’t have it all wrong. In a society with no moral standard, unhealthy relationships with one's appetites are started. One major criticism of capitalism is that it encourages greed in both the consumers and the businessmen. Which isn’t entirely false, although various right wing pundits claim it to be. When people are taught to moderate their desires in the name of modesty and holiness, capitalism is used to supply what consumers need, and at times, what they want. With self-centered people, there is no concern when it comes to moderation, overspending, greed, and materialism, leading to the demolishing of limited behavior. In other words, when responsibility wanes, people go wild. 

Take “adult content” for example. When asked, the overwhelming majority of women who engage in this act will never cite enjoyment, or a feeling of fulfillment as a chief reason for why they do what they do. OnlyFans stars are loaded, which is the real reason why they began. Desperation, coupled with loose societal mores and a lack of willingness to criticize unfettered capitalism leads to a degraded marketplace and therefore, a degraded consumer base as well. Owners of “pay-per-creator” companies would rather pull their business from an entire state rather than just have minors legally not have access to their “services”.  After North Carolina and Montana mandated that age must be verified before accessing content on P*rn Hub, parent company Aylo decided to pull business entirely from both the states. Rather than being accessed by considerably less people (therefore generating less revenue), Aylo’s owners prefer to be completely restricted in the states that dare to reintroduce some semblance of ethics back into business.

Upon the creation of the constitution, John Adams said “Our constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”. Without a set of guiding principles serving as a model to solve modern problems, Adams realized early on that governments and people would fail to cooperate with each other. While it is well known that capitalism isn’t written into the constitution as the sole economic system, it is still deeply tied into the founding principles America was forged on. In a valueless society, capitalism is a wild animal. It has no limits, and no obligation to moral goodness. Its power is corrupted and wielded by the elitist against the citizen. It is used as a power grab, by cudgeling us into submission. I’m not advocating for a complete shutdown of all businesses I view as immoral, as God wants his people to get into heaven because we chose to follow his word. Not because we were made to submit to our overlords. However, when values guide capitalism’s next advancements, society is not only choosing to act wholly, but protecting future generations from a degenerate upbringing in a falling culture. Capitalism in a society that values God, and the Ten Commandments is a perfect medium between overarching power and control, to none at all.
