   The Homeless Need A Home

Sometimes people go through things unimaginable, and sometimes those things lead to people not having a place to go, being stuck on the streets where they are only disrespected by people.

The homeless need a place to go, a place where they don’t have to pay rent or stress about what may happen to them. No one is there for the homeless; everyone thinks the homeless are either dirty, drug addicts, or “losers” for being poor and unable to have a place to stay. But what are the homeless going to do when winter comes and it gets cold? During every winter in Canada, at least 80 people die due to overexposure to the cold weather. Imagine how many more people would die with homeless people in the streets without proper winter attire. Even during warmer seasons many homeless people can die from not getting enough food or water.

Now think, what if you were that homeless person, or someone you cared for was; wouldn’t you want someone caring enough to at least try and help? If there was a place they could go that was warm and welcoming, without worrying about rent or getting kicked out, think about how many lives it could save. The homeless don’t just need but they deserve a place to stay, don’t you agree?

Can you imagine being in a place where you never know where your next meal will come from, not knowing when your next meal will be? Back in 2021 there were over 235,000 people homeless in Canada alone. That was 2 years ago, it could’ve doubled in that time. 6% of Canada's population was homeless in 2021. A good 6% of Canadians were struggling to the point they couldn’t afford to live anywhere, probably struggling to eat as well. In Toronto, there are between 1,500-2,000 people under the age of 18 who are without a safe place to go, left on the streets.

Being homeless is sad, and everyone assumes every homeless person is a drug addict, and disrespects them without a second thought. But no one talks about the feelings of that homeless person. People treat them like they're heartless but there's a huge chance that that homeless person is struggling not just physically but mentally as well. The disappointment, the feeling when they know they failed themselves, the hatred and the disgusted feeling as to how they're living like that. Although living is living, no matter how hard it is to survive just one more day, it’s a miracle they do. Many homeless people struggle from mental illnesses like Depression, Anxiety, PTSD, Bpd, Schizophrenia or other illnesses. And to have no access to any sort of help along their journey is very disappointing when you think about it, because they can later on end up doing harm to themselves or others if no one is there

Homeless people struggle in their everyday lives, and almost no one helps them. I hope in the future more people will help out whether it's giving them a bit of change or just a smile as they walk by; it really can mean the absolute world to someone.

This piece was made Due to a school assignment, I was only supposed to write one paragraph, but the homeless deserve more than that, so i hope you can take a minute just to read it!
