Everyone has an idol or just someone they want to be more like even though some of these people have serious behavior problems. These people can be athletes, actors, singers, authors, or any person with certain qualities. Every person has different standards for what makes someone admirable. For some people, talent and stardom are what people look up to and want to become. Some people that are idols have talent, but make some poor decisions. Certain actors do actions that are frowned upon. These can include drinking, drug abuse, wearing revealing clothing, and sexual publicity. It is sickening that some people do whatever it takes to become more famous. Their “followers” can adopt all of these people’s actions. Some stars say there is no such thing as bad publicity. Kim Kardashian had some sex tapes get loose which made her even more famous, even if it was for the wrong reason (Guana). Celebrities should watch themselves because everything they do wrong, millions of juveniles could reenact. Celebrities are one of the top reasons that children and teens do life ruining experiments and actions. If someone is an idol to another person, they need to act responsible. For celebrities, somebody is always watching.

The paparazzi can capture celebrities no matter what they are doing. First, the paparazzi tries to catch celebrities doing bad stuff. For example, magazines that line the checkout shelves are full of negative articles and headlines on celebrities. These magazines show breakups to make-ups and drinking to drugs. The paparazzi thrives off of negative publicity because that is what people want to read. Second, celebrities, more than anyone, need to watch themselves. For instance, Miley Cyrus was filmed smoking marijuana (Guana). A teenage girl could easily see or read about this event. As Alyssa Guana stated, “Celebrities have the easiest time influencing teens because they are so vulnerable”. What she meant by this is that teenagers just want to feel like they fit in a group. They may keep changing themselves to belong. They may copy a popular person because that teen wants to be popular too. A teenage girl (or maybe boy) could have an easy time mimicking Cyrus’ marijuana situation (Guana). Third, celebrities can be their own paparazzi. For example, twitter allows celebrities to post their whereabouts at any time. Followers can then look at these tweets and know where the cool celebrities go. Some teens not only copy their idols actions, but the places they go as well (Guana). If a celebrity tweeted, going to the biggest party of the year, it may not be all that unlikely that some of that star’s followers could become major partyers. In conclusion, celebrities need to realize that everything they do can be captured and shown to the world. Some of these stars gain popularity because of these paparazzi incidents.

Some celebrities are better known for what they do, even if that isn’t talent. First, people become popular just through conversation. For example, some baseball players are better known than ones with better stats. An experiment was performed in which total strangers talked about baseball players via email. Some baseball fans thought they were talking to experts, but they were actually talking to people that didn’t have a clue about baseball. The fans ended up talking about players with more media coverage because that is what the person they were emailing was talking about. They had a conversation in which they told each other things they both already knew about players. The conversation turned from more skilled players to more popular players (Callaway) What I’m getting at is people become well known because they do things people talk about, and people love to talk about negative events. Second, some people are famous just because of who they are. For instance, Paris Hilton was born a star. She is the daughter of a famous billionaire so that got her name out. She is also pretty which grabbed people’s attention. She does absolutely nothing worthy of fame, like singing or acting, but a lot of material worthy of publicity (Callaway). She has been to prison for drinking and drugs (Guana). She is famous but only because she is the rich daughter of an even richer, hard working business man (Callaway). In conclusion, people get famous just for “doing stuff”, that may not have to do with talent. This can be an advantage for celebrities on TV.

Some of the most popular TV shows show too much inappropriate behavior. First, the New Jersey Shore is a great example of this. The hit show is about a bunch of people who crave sex, drinks, and love to fight. The arguments and fights is great for publicity but not for young fans of the show. This will cause many kids to think, Snooki or The Situation did it, so why can’t I. Or even worse, kids will think they should do what these people do if they want to become TV stars (Guana). Second, there are many other hit shows that demonstrate poor behavior. For example, The Real Housewives shows young viewers that you can have an easy and luxurious lifestyle by being pretty and acting rich. They have the easiest job you can imagine. They get paid to pay someone else to take care of someone else’s house (Guana). Bad behavior can also be found with kids TV shows. These shows don’t typically (if ever) show any thing bad, but the actors often end up doing something. Jamie Lynn Spears, from Zoey 101, has already been pregnant at age 16. This is a terrible example for girls that used to watch that show and “wanted to be like Zoey”. In conclusion, TV shows should not air as many shows about violent, inappropriate, or witch like people and actors and actresses need to watch themselves.

Celebrities and our idols are some of the biggest influence of how we live our lives. Some people try to be like their idol, others try to be their idol. Celebrities need to realize that they are in control of millions of people in some sense and that they need to act accordingly. I have been ranting on celebrities pretty hard. Regular people need to act appropriately too. If a celebrity is doing drugs or dinking that does not mean it is okay for the fans to do that stuff too. Everyone is in control of his or her own lives. Our friends have an even higher influence on us than anyone else. All people should realize that what they do might not just affect themselves, but others too. I am currently experiencing the peer pressure from my friends and all students. I am a freshman in highschool and there is the constant battle of fitting in and staying safe. For some people celebrities influence them more and for others it is their friends. Everyone has something that affects how he or she acts. For some this may even be religion. The strongest people in this world act correctly because that is how they know is a correct, good, and respectful way to act. But going back to celebrities, they need to watch their behavior and actions because not only their close friends see what they do, the entire world does.
