Putting Animals in Zoos

Putting animals in zoos is animal cruelty. Most of these animals only see a thick glass or a thorny fence that keeps them in. All these animals should not be taken from their homes, for entertainment.

The United States is well known for entertaining people. Entertaining people with moves, shows of talents, and music is great; but not entertaining using animals.

Many organizations like PETA, ASPCA, and American Humane Association demand the release of animals in zoos. Animals don't have control of themselves because they are wild. It is not their fault for their actions, attacking humans. It is like their self-defense and humans get angry for animals' actions, so they punish animals in a cruel manner.

Organizations like PETA have incredibly helped many mistreated animals. PETA is dedicated to establishing and defending the rights of all animals. PETA operates under the simple principle that animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, and used for entertainment. PETA explains and educates people about the mistreatment of animals in the world.

All of these organizations are helpful, especially PETA. This brings me back to zoos. Animals shouldn't be put into cages for human entertainment. Humans need to find other entertainment such as theme parks, theater, or dramas. In many causes people don't understand and it when PETA takes action. They would anything they can to take down any marketing or entertainment using animals.

My conclusion is that is zoos let animals free our world would be natural like it used to. I am against animal cruelty. I think its appalling having an animal in-caged not knowing that outside world. “I had a dream... freedom.” (Martin Luther King)

I agree with you. However, I am 50/50 on the captivity controversy. I do believe that zoos can do a much better job. Great article!

I would tend to disagree... While zoos are not perfect, they really do their best.

Cici, you make some very good points.  I have little further to say that I haven't already- but I am not necessarily saying that they should just plunk any old animal out of the wild and into a cage!  I am very into animal rights, and while I do agree that more space would be ideal, the zoos I've seen, (though I admit I've only seen a few,) are not cruel.  They really do try and emulate the animal's natural feeding habits and such.  I'm not saying they're dead on... But if you feel so strongly about animals, I am sure that you've been to a zoo!  Otherwise, they would just be an abstract concept!  I'm not saying that you're necessarily right or wrong, and I will allow that zoos aren't all good, but I feel that I have to put my honest opinion as I am best educated!

Zoos do NOT mimic animals' natural environments, not the habitat, the natural diets, nor movement i.e. freedom to swim or walk 40 miles per day, as in the case of dolphins and elephants.  Elderly zoo animals that are not able to reporoduce are often sold to "private animal sanctuaries" where the animals are unnaturally trained for performances and/or hunted in "canned" hunts for sportsmen.  Zoos are cruel and unnatural.  Extinction?  We, as humans, need to look to ourselves an the destruction of natural habitats for animals' extinction.  Locking them in forced captivity and breeding is not an answer to extinction.

I agree with you, I mean if some species are close to extinction and thats the only way to save them, then sure, thats okay but other then that, I find that it's VERY wrong to keep them incaptivity. It takes away the freedom that they have.

I don't think zoos are animal cruelty- many zoos respect the animals by giving them generous living space, and the same eating patterns that they would have in the wild.  Also, zoos help us learn more about animals- they make them more real to us than pages on a magezine.  I'll bet most of the people who feel so strongly about zoos wouldn't feel that way had they never seen any of these animals in person.  Many zoos take in only injured or bread in captivity animals.  Also, I agree with cupcake's point about animals that are endangered.  It is not that I don't care about animals, or the enviroment- I care very much, that is why I think that zoos are important.  They help the animals.  But as for animal testing- I'm totally against that!

even though you might not be able to read this, i think that you are right. And wrong. Some species are close to extinction and zoos are the only way to save them.
