A Defense of Nature
We were born from the womb under Earth’s crust. Mother nature morphed our spirits and molded our bodies with delicate fingers that held us up. Life was created and we were apart of the ever pleasant design. We were created to live harmoniously with all life, with all its brutality and kindness…
Then why do we turn our back on this? On the basic principles of our design? Why do we try to outsmart the ruler who created our own minds? I fear if we continue we will disappear. We batter and beat our fellow creatures, we cage and oppress them for their useful features. Buildings filled with dark crowded rooms, where they stumble over each other not knowing they are food. Growing bigger, day after day, but don't mistake this as kindness. The kindness we give is only for ourselves and we fail to see how to help anyone else. And here lies the machine, the factory born life. Floating in test tubes and refrigerated under poorly lit light. Hidden in darkness where most do not see. A place on land as dark as ebony sea. Lifeless but moving, for the gears still work. Screeching as they continue their malicious task. And all that is left is the conveyer belts dragging pounds of innocent flesh. Our carnivorous lust overwhelming our minds and unmend the bonds that were created through time. Money and power triumph over all. So we will continue to cage the humble beast and toy with their skin and bones. What beautiful garments we will twist around our necks, arms, and chest but only last for a moment until we find the new "best." We are fit with unrest; we are such brilliant, stupid creatures. Disrespecting those who share our earth and corrupt and disturb their souls. But we can not continue to float on the surface with hopes of waves never ahead. One day the factory will shut down. And no food would remain, but plenty left to be fed. For, we are only safe for now in this Garden of life. Sooner or later we will have to deal with the fight. The Garden left with no hope, lonely and decrepit. Earth's blessed offerings drowned in wildfire. Yet we still have time before our garden goes to waste. Think of the ones we call them by the names of poultry, pork, and beef. We are not apart of that beauty in nature we love; rather became the thing we had fears of.

I have converted to vegetarianism for about a year and a half now and I have always had a compassion for animals and nature. So when I was faced with the assignment of creating a passionate defense using figurtive language, I knew that this was the topic I would write about. I wanted my audience to have an experience and explore this imagery I have written, rather than simply reading it. The use of metaphor and colorful description in a persuasive piece is a unique and strong way to write.
