One- hundred- thousand people every year are shot and (Staff). On average 289 of those people die (Staff). Even though guns can protect you, firearm regulations have be stricter because many guns are too powerful and easy to get. The government needs to stop private gun sellers from selling guns. Evidence shows that 40% of guns are sold by private sellers, 62% of private sellers to do not do background checks, and thirty-three states do not have to do background checks for weapons (Staff).

Many guns are too powerful for citizens to handle and legal to have in the U.S. The 50 caliber sniper rifle which has a radius of 5 miles can take down a helicopter! The M134 General Electric Minigun shoots 166 shots per second (marks). The AK-47 which was used in the Aurora Movie Theater and killed many people, President Barrack Obama says “a lot of gun owners would agree AK-47s belong in the hands of soldiers and not in the hands of crooks. They belong on the battlefield of war, not on the streets of our cities.” It’s insane that these guns are even legal to have. These guns are very powerful and obviously not meant to protect.

Many believe that guns were meant to protect but they were meant to be used in wars. In social studies I learned gun powder was made for fireworks, but then the Europeans came and turned them into weapons for war. Guns are not used to “keep the peace.” Even though the U.S gives you the right to bear arms people (usually) have them for fun or to kill. Guns are meant to protect people tend to misuse them. Gun regulations are not strict enough and the government has to work on it more.

People will say “guns are good protection”, but they are wrong. The elementary school that was shot up and killed 20 kids and 7 teachers (this includes the killer), the Aurora Movies Massacre, or even all the college campus shootings that happens.

Gun regulations need to be stricter and make it harder to let people have guns. This is the only way gun killings can be kept under control. Either that or ban guns from people who aren’t cops or in the army, even security guards. Simpy guns are bad.
