Mature Love
In my personal opinion, I believe that if you are mature enough to handle it, you can be in love in high school. Now, love is not for everybody at age 14, 15, 16, etc. However, if two kids are in love, no one has the right to judge. Love is something that not all high school students are comfortable with yet. Some kids are still trying to find themselves first before putting themselves out there for love. Many kids at my high school are in relationships. However, I always see people going from one person to another; meaning they can never stay committed to one person. I think that it is very unhealthy to get extremely close to another person and then “break up” with them days or weeks later. Thankfully, I have grown up with both of my parents living under the same roof. Therefore, I can always see a happy and healthy relationship. Also, both sets of my grandparents are still happily married. I feel very lucky to be able to witness happy and healthy relationships. Therefore, I try to transfer over the healthy characteristics of their relationships to my own relationship. I, like a lot of other high school girls, have had their heart broken. I dated the same guy from ninth grade to my junior year in high school. He cheated on me about 4 times. To be honest, sadly, I lost count. That relationship obviously did not last and I am glad it did not. Now, I am with who I believe is my soul mate. He is honestly one of the nicest human beings I have ever met in my entire life. He is the type of person where he cares more about others than he does himself. He is nineteen, in his freshman year of college and I am seventeen in my senior year of high school. Many of adults say that kids do not know what love is because they are so young. I do not think it matters what age you are, if you find someone that makes you feel good about yourself (and vice versa), and you have fun with them, who is someone to judge you and your relationship? I do believe you have to be mature enough to handle a relationship. For example, if you get into an argument with your boyfriend or girlfriend, you should be mature enough to have a civil conversation to try and resolve your issues. Everyone has different stories; some kids do not have the luxury to watch their parents grow old together. However, all that matters is you and your happiness. If you are mature enough, you can handle a relationship and possibly fall in love.
