The Summer I Turned Pretty is a young adult show based on a book trilogy by Jenny Han that became very popular directly after its release in the summer of 2022. Ever since this show came out there has been one question that the viewers are divided on - Jeremiah or Conrad? At its core, this show is about a love triangle between a teenage girl, Belly, and her childhood friends, who also happen to be brothers, Conrad and Jeremiah. These characters have been spending their summers together at a beach house ever since they were kids, but this summer, things are different. Belly has always had a crush on Conrad, but now she has to decide if him or Jeremiah would be a better decision. I think it's very clear that Conrad will always be the right choice for her.

Every year Belly spends her time waiting for the moment summer will begin –. pPartly because she loves spending time at the beach house and relaxing with her family, but partly because she can’t wait to see Conrad. She’d had a crush on him longer than she could even remember, and this year was no different. She couldn’t wait to see the look on his face when he saw her this year, since she definitely had changed a lot since the last time he saw her. This is one reason that he is the one Belly should choose. She's been in love with him her entire life. Its become a part of herself. To move on in one summer just doesn’t make sense, and it also stops her from being true to herself. While she enjoys her moments with Jeremiah, she appreciates the ones with Conrad more since she knows how important her love for him has always been. Even when she is with Jeremiah, she still yearns to be with Conrad. While she does love Jeremiah, she will always have a part of her that will want to be with Conrad, where she can have a deeper and more rooted connection. 

One major difference between Conrad and Jeremiah is that Conrad has always been a little bit more on the serious side while Jeremiah loves to have fun and isn’t as good at having deep and meaningful conversations. Belly enjoys hanging out with Jeremiah, and he always madehad her feeling excited, but Conrad is someone that she could feel safe with and know that they could have deep conversations with about their emotions. Jeremiah is better as a friend because of this, especially since Belly has viewed him this way her entire life. They always clicked in a way that they could do silly things together and goof off about the same things, but when it comes to a serious relationship, they don’t fit as well as she would with Conrad, since it’s always been that way for them already.

Ever since they were little kids, Jeremiah felt that he had to compete with Cconrad. Whether it came to football, their friends, or Belly, Jeremiah always wanted to one- up his brother. So when he realized that he had the chance to have something that was always thought of as Conrad’s, obviously he took it. Being able to show his brother that he could get Belly if he wanted to was definitely a big factor in him wanting to start something with her. While he does love her, how would she know it wasn’t all just to show Conrad that he doesn’t always get everything he wants? Conrad would never have this problem, since all he wanted was to end up with Belly, rather than to compete for her. 

At the end of the day, Belly will always love Conrad more than Jeremiah, so to force herself into a relationship with Jeremiah would be a waste of time. Conrad isn’t always perfect, but for Belly, he is definitely the better choice. She could always see a future with him and couldn’t say the same for Jeremiah, and that is more important than any fun moment they might have together. Conrad is – and will always – be Belly’s true soulmate.
