be who you are
“Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.”-Dr. Seuss. Today’s society tells us to be a certain way, wear certain clothes, and associate with certain people. We tend to live our lives according to society’s expectation of us. Even though we essentially have the “say so” in how we live our lives many people continue to follow the crowd. It’s so easy to fall into the trap that society sets us up for. For example Hollywood creates the prefect life style that everyone wants and creates the “norms”, which influence how we as people feel about any and every issue. Our goal then evolves in to being like everyone else instead of being yourself. People spend so much of their time trying to fit in. they hide behind all these lies because there too afraid of what others will say about them. Today, as High School students we care way to much about what people think of us; what we say, what we do, and what we wear. I’ve definitely been a victim of that. I have relied on others to lead me tell me what to do, or how to handle a situation because I never had faith in myself. Somewhere along the way I stopped caring some much about what other people think about me. The only opinion that should count is yours and the people that are your true friends will accept you for who you are. You should never feel like you can’t be yourself. Always stay true to yourselves and everyone around you. If more people stopped worrying so much about the way others view them, and focused on what was actually important there would be so much less negativity in this world. The pressure everyone feels to fit it would suddenly be gone. You should never cover up the real you. If you find yourself following in the footsteps of the “in crowd” ask yourself is this really who I am?
