Freedom of Religion?

Have you seen those people wearing their crosses to school? Have you ever seen them asked to take it off? No? Me either. However, a friend of mine has been asked to remove a pentagram before. (wiccan/pagan, not satanic, though they should be able to display their faith, too) I preface this by saying she's not particularly religious, and that she just happened to like the necklace. Anyhow, it was a normal day at school, when a substitute teacher approached her, asking her to remove it. "Why? I'm entitled to my own beliefs." "Because it's offensive." What happened to freedom of religion? That teacher had been wearing a cross, as were numerous girls in the class. This wasn't catholic school, it was just a public school, and she was asked to remove a symbol of faith. Since when is that okay?

Please don't comment on how it "shouldn't matter because she isn't religious", because my point is that nobody should be discriminated against for having their own religious beliefs.
