The Death of Communication
Deep. Calm. Soothing. The tuba is loud but not too loud that it can be heard over the other instruments. The tuba can’t be heard by everyone over the loud drums but has a soothing sound to it when up close. It does however stand out in a group of other instruments from its large size to the shiny brass. The tuba is calm and simple, with only three keys but can be altered by the person hiding behind it to change what is really heard. The tuba is a member of a miraculous orchestra wherein all the instruments have personalities and are different from each other. However, the tuba never gets to play its melody. All it ever gets to do is play a boring, repetitive bass line. This is how other people see the tuba. The flutes have beautiful melodies but the tuba sits in the back. When the tuba tries to play like the other instruments it just gets drowned out. It seems like the tuba is as quiet as a mouse to others.
I can relate the tuba to people in real life. Some people feel like they are never heard. Communicating is a big part of people’s lives. Communication and conversation happen every day to everyone. People have conversations with their friends, their partner, their bosses, or even strangers. In today’s society, everybody is constantly talking whether it is online, over the phone, or in person; conversations are happening. During a conversation, there is a communicator and a listener. Though the communicator is relaying all the information, the listener is important because they are the ones to receive the information. Although communication between two individuals should be happening all of the time, for some it feels like it isn’t just like a tuba not being heard by others in the band. The tuba can be seen by others around it and has a very shiny look to it from the outside. But you just can’t always hear it. They just sit there sounding like nothing to you just like some people may feel in real life. People may ask themselves, do people even hear me? That is a big thing changing in our society today. People are so caught up in their phones and other technology, their communication skills are decreasing significantly. People have trouble talking on the phone because all they do is text each other. Communication is the friend that people need to count on to live a successful life. Personally, I believe that if someone doesn’t have good communication skills, they couldn’t be as successful as someone with more profound communication skills.
Try not to be the tuba in the band. Try to be someone who stands out to others within a crowd and wants to socialize with others. Try creating conversation with people and don’t sit back to not be heard.
