In the last year, the MLB banned homeplate collisions. Personally I think that collisions are a big part of baseball. A reason would be if the catcher gets a ball from the outfield and if there is a player running toward home. The catcher's mentality is "I have to protect this base from the player." And these collisions play a big part with the running player because he wants to score the run to help out his team. I think the main reason why they banned them is because some of the players were getting injured from either sliding, diving, and colliding into the catcher(s).
