It’s quite difficult
without a pole

You stand
in the water-
looking down
with your hands
submerged-
and cannot
move

It takes great
discipline
patience
and determination

Sometimes
you can stand
for hours,
and no fish
will swim
into your grasp

Do not act too
quickly
or you will scare
off the fish.
But with
time
and patience,
you may
have your catch

This piece is actually about a real experiance I had on a beach which was filled with little fish. The memory was brought out after reading the poem "Stardust" by Kay Ryan.
