The Prodigal Sun
The prodigal sun left everything he knew
The sky was first scarlet, then soft lavender
Even a shade of blue
Like an angry behemoth
The mountains roar
And the tides of the water change
Up above the ocean floor
The prodigal sun is curious
Simply wanting to explore
He must face what is new to him
He abandons that which he grew to abhor
But with time the sun finds himself penitential
His emotions sway
For with shame he soon realizes
He was never meant to run away
The vicissitudes of fate finally shake hands
And with open arms the universe stands
So the moon returns and illuminates that which he missed the most
Resting there alone in place
Of the prodigal sun’s ghost
