Where I Am From
I am from paperback books
From smucker’s pb and j’s and cosmic brownies
I am from the pool in the backyard
(blue, glimmering,
It smelled like chlorine)
I am from the bushes
The dutch clovers I threw in the air
Which smelled of fresh air as they fell down
Even on the stalest days
I’m from the chair races down the hall and brown hair
From Judith and Ken
And Rose
I’m from the over-workers
And the passer-bys
From Always communicate and Think before you act!
I’m from He creates us all
Who gives me courage and love
At the times I need it most
I’m from the Big Easy
Blueberry streusel and lemonade
From the roots my grandfather didn’t have to one place
The umbrella my grandfather put through the roof to prevent leakage
In the bin were boxes and boxes
Showing the lives my families once lived
A pile of familiar faces
To pass onto future generations I will call my family
I am from the laughs
Gone before long
Planted in a frame
To grow closer to us as those moments become memories.
