Ode to things forgotten:

Things become forgotten
In the changing seasons
Runaway leaves scurrying away
with your afterthoughts
Blown to forgotten corners

Things drift away
with the motion in the trees,
fall in the invisible
cracks in the sidewalk.
Time swallows the sound of her laugh
And the smell of honeysuckle in summertime

It wasn’t anyone’s fault
Not the disappearance of the moon at sunrise
Or the melting snow
Or the inevitable rotation of earth
Leaving our pasts
in the dark
And the hibernating bears
don’t keep your secrets
It’s not the flat edges of the earth
where your childhood wanders

Things become forgotten with the tides,
pushing and pulling
our memories.
Molding remnants of
moth eaten yesterdays.
What was once white is now yellow
Smiles no longer shedding light on today
lingering in the shadows
The trees search for your secrets in the soil
Roots reaching
Whispering to the worms,
but things become forgotten

Dead leaves make living soil
Green shoots bring a new now
A child blows dandelion promises
Carried away with wind

Fugitive memories
Slipping through our fingers
So lets admire the invisible force
Wind chimes in remembrance
We forget yet we remember
With the tinkling of the breeze
And yet things are still forgotten.
