The Gambler's Hand in Love
Deal the cards!
My heart in shards
At the sight of the mysterious man
Sitting across the table's span
A curt nod he imparts, face masked in composure
I search his eyes for some kind of closure
Show me your hand beautiful stranger!
Don’t risk my umbrage and the game's uncertain danger
Trust me and reveal your deepest secrets
Don’t give me that poker face, stark and egret
My pulse is rising, anticipating your bet
Raise! He laughs trapping me in Devil's net
But I shall not give in, my hand is too strong
My life’s on the line thus I must not be wrong
Ah the bluff! If only I could call it true
If only he cracked to let the light shine through
Instead, he smolders an alluring wink
As if in coercion to make me rethink
Oh the audacity! Imagining me a slave to seduction
I shall not fold! No sir, I will have no compunction
When I lay down my hand and see your face fall
The chiseled jaw, haughty smirk, disappearing as if never at all
For your spades have been blunted
Your aces have been stunted
By my paper hearts' battalion
In the end it is I with the sparkling medallion!
I make haste to depart, my winnings in tow
Yet a magnet of love thwarts me in doing so
I turn to the man, whose eyes explore my own
And impart the inamorata's tease, hinting the mischief that soon will be sown
"Do not submit to temptation my love!"
I allure him with a pout with a gentle shove
Two can play this game of curiosity
Of enticement and lovely ferocity
Like gambling, this game of love is addicting
One wins and the other bets his heart, no predicting
The outcome is chance
Both players unsuspecting of the hand of romance
Written the cards, we cannot escape this fate
And thus we may find that at the gamblers' next date
We are inclined to break down our card towers
Cracking our masks, and revealing our affection in pure and bleeding power!
