Night
I can hear you coming,
like the soft crunch of fallen leaves.
My skin prickles; hairs on end.
A small shiver crackles down my spine, a sweet jolt that warns me your nearly upon us.
I smile in spite of myself,
knowing I'll regret it later.
I watch as the stars light up the sky with its luminescent song, a cheery one with crickets and frogs.
A blanket of darkness sweeps over the Earth, calming and welcoming.
The moon peaks out from behind a gloomy cloud and glares, all-knowing.
Now, it is night.
