Open letter to Gymnastics
Dear Gymnastics,
You started off as an after school activity,
I was just a 6 year old
Who hated going to ballet.
I soon began to love the rush
Beam, Bars,
I adored it all.
At just 7 I began club
Competitions
every weekend.
I was fearless,
Known by my coaches as “Beam queen”.
(I never imagined
the beam would become my current nemesis).
You gave me so much,
A six-pack,
huge muscles.
loving you became so hard.
You took so much out of me.
So I decided to step back.
The back handspring got the best of my head.
But I overcame the mentality,
Changing “I can’t”
Into “I can”.
Its been 2 years since,
I am back in the gym.
the smell is still the same,
Sweat
and chalk dust.
I’ve never been happier.
The sense of belonging to a team,
a likeminded group of athletes
who want to accomplish the same goals.
The friendships I've made
because of this sport,
Will last for eternity.
You are the reason I am strong,
Physically and mentally.
Even though we’ve had our lows,
I will always crave to be tumbling,
Swinging on the bars,
Or even conditioning
I'm so glad you’ve come back,
I’ll love you forever
