The Audition

This was my time to shine,
Palms sweating,
I walked onstage,
The director’s eyes boring into me.

Palms sweating,
I began to sing,
The director’s eyes boring into me,
My voice quavering for a moment from nerves.

I began to sing,
The sound echoing across the theatre,
My voice quavering for a moment from nerves,
Then it was over.

The sound echoing across the theatre,
I was cut off by the director,
Then it was over,
My audition was done.

I was cut off by the director,
I hoped they could see something in me,
My audition was done,
I had done all I could do.

I hoped they could see something in me,
But I was still anxious to see the callback list,
I had done all I could do,
But was it enough?

But I was still anxious to see the callback list,
There it was on the wall,
But was it enough?
My mind began to buzz with excitement.

There it was on the wall,
The callback list,
My mind began to buzz with excitement,
I got called back!

The callback list,
The single paper that decided fates,
I got called back!
This would be a day I would remember for my entire life.

The single paper that decided fates,
The director’s eyes boring into me,
This would be a day I would remember for my entire life,
This was my time to shine.

This poem is awesome. The feeling comes through loud and clear. It makes you feel like you are actually on stage auditioning your self. Good job, Alec.
