Where I Come From
I am from learning to throw a perfect spiral in the backyard
From not being able to leave the table until my food was finished
From the long drives to visit grandma and grandpa on holidays
From slowly learning the difference between needs and wants
I am from a sunburned nose after spending all day at Nicolet Bay
From the smell of gasoline, sunscreen, and the faded, vinyl seats
From a hand outside the boat that drags through the sparkling water
From nights being rocked to sleep by the gentle waves of the canal
I am from getting there early to stand in line for an hour
From always wanting to be closer to the stage
From closing my eyes and letting myself get lost in the music
From the ringing that remains in my ears until I fall asleep
I am from not having to worry about being bored
From nights spent talking and laughing with my best friends
From doing whatever I can to help a neighbor
From knowing that they will be there for me
I am from a mix of determination and procrastination
From sleeping in until noon and staying up too late
From [saying a prayer, but letting the good times roll]
From never wanting those moments to end
