Where I'm From
I am from rides in my dad’s dump truck
From Coppertone Kids and Cabbage Patch dolls.
I am from Crazy Daisy and blow-up pools in the summertime,
From splashing around to Nationals,
The lessons I’ve learned remain the same
I’m from go get ‘ems and never give ups
From the feeling of getting that first gold medal around my neck
And the glory of winning the state championship.
I am from fourteen-foot Christmas trees
And the “kid” table at Thanksgiving dinner
From a tooth under my pillow for the Tooth Fairy
And a basket left out for the Easter Bunny
I’m from surprise birthdays and out to lunches with Grandma
From cute kitties and puppies that melt my heart.
I am from the craft table at Sunday church
From stories of Moses and David, Joshua and Samuel.
I’m from Jesus loves me, this I know
For the Bible tells me so.
And John 3:16, eternal life.
I am from boxes of homemade gifts
From Christmas and birthdays past
I’m from old scrapbooks and photo albums
Pictures of family gatherings and happy memories
I am from those moments
Just one branch on my family tree.
