Awaiting Autumn
The leaves are starting to turn
And are becoming crisp-like apples
My heart leaps up at their return
And I watch the sunlight as it dapples.
As their dresses of red, orange, and gold
Dance across the meadow
They are a delight for my eyes to behold
And the birds play songs that are mellow.
But the sunlight is still so glaring
And the flowers are still in bloom
As the crowds flock to the beach.
It seems summertime is daring
Temperatures of a hundred loom
And lovely fall is still out of my reach.
