Youthful Fidelities
To think it was the end
Innocence condemned
Nine years old
Hushed prophesies
Never foretold
Small hands gripping
My own neck
Travesties
I’d been subject
And horrors
Oh, the horrors I held
My little body trembled
As my hazy eyes welled
But then at that moment
A face came to mind
A curly-headed baby
How could I be so blind?
To miss her life,
To leave her behind!
“I love her,
I love her!”
I sobbed to myself
It was far too early
To say my farewells
Because to love a sister
Is like loving oneself
