My Fire
All traces of Day completely die
As the Black Sheet falls, and here I lie.
My lids start to flutter, then finally close
And now – in my familiar dream swiftly flows…
A confusion of colors swirls all about;
People laughing and crying, then a scream and a shout.
Starting to run, I look up and look down,
To the left, to the right – I look all around.
Searching for something that I cannot see;
Feeling around for what it could be,
Soaring as fast as a hawk through the air,
Streaming like lightning, my senses begin to flare.
I’m closer now – I know – I can feel it!
This proof that my fire is again almost lit.
Nearer and nearer I sprint and I glide,
The unknown thing I am scavenging for slips away to hide.
With a twitch and a jerk, my eyes open and blink;
Deeper into my pillow I slowly – sadly sink.
In an instant I know that my sleep has now finished.
Searching inside me, I find my fire diminished.
