A Gift Returned
I am hanging on every word I wish you'd say
and I have lost the mem'ry of my dream of today
what you're thinking right now heaven only knows
as you tear the box out from underneath the bow
I hope you like the present that I thought to give before
and only yesterday managed to get the courage for
in the box you find a note that says look up and so you do
in all your years you'll never guess what I have planned for you
I move in to kiss you but you push my face away
I know you know that you can see you broke my heart today
I know you're taken but still i had hoped you'd come through
it was so foolish to think you could feel the way I do
I am hanging on every word I wish you'd say
a tear falls down my face as you turn to run away
