Wave
a wave gains momentum
closing in on the shoreline
higher and higher
like rising sun
but then
at the peak
his spine starts to bend
the wave has reached its
inevitable end
he comes crashing down
in a firework display of salt
and water
glory in the finish
a grand finale of release
whether it be by bullet in war
or by time in an easy chair
crash
into the unknown
where angels and demons await
the ultimatum of fate
is standing with a shovel
the very last breath
the very last smile
the very last words
so important
so stolen by time
I find
that the sunrise is pretty
but the sunset burns
burns with a fire
that only comes with
the glory in the finish
