New Hope
She stared blankly at the road ahead
If she didn’t leave now she’d end up dead.
On the side of the road or the back of a car
But after last night she to take charge,
A whisper, a touch, a slap in the face
She woke up this morning her finger displaced.
She closed her eyes; willed the pain to end
If she didn’t leave now it’d happen again
With the first step she doubted the thought,
But the with a sudden change of heart
She touched the top of the book she’d found
The Holy Bible was safe and sound
This book had given her hope again
She already read it from end to end
In it was truth that made her new
Christ her savior who once was slew.
