Slitery Slink
Slithery Slink

 it always wants to play

     but
 no one can stay
 F o r e v e r
 humans will tire
 move on
 and the thing turns cold

 wherever it is present
 people toy with it
 as an
 e n d l e s s
 game
watching it flip flop down a

 s t a i r w e l l
like a fish caught on a boat
all the while making the chime

  of chains

     humans touch it
 smelling dirt from age
 reminding them
 earth is beckoning
 first evident to them

     when they were children

and fell playing tag in the park

   and the ground seemed

    to want them it itself

 people play
around the light or dark tunnel
 stop
 and are gone

i found a whole box of the silver maggots under my stairs
 motionless
 ready to be played with
 they always want to play
