The Oriole
When the mourning dove sighs
We all hear it's call
When the swan's heart breaks
It's recognized by all
So why is it then
That when the Oriole cries
Nobody hears or heeds it's pain
Nobody cares if it will feel again
For the Oriole is
No weaker a bird
Than all the others
Happily heard
Yet still we pretend it isn't the same
And the Oriole cries
And the Oriole dies
For alone did the Oriole
Take to the skies
But still we don't see
How sad he can be
The poor little Oriole
Could he be me?

This poem is about the lack of recognition for friendship breakups. Everyone has sympathy for the end of romantic relationships, but rarely do we talk about the pain caused by a lost friend.
