Graduation
Hallways once buzzing with people are now empty
Laughter echoes in hollow rooms
Voices speak of nothing
A larger room
Music lingers in the rafters
A lost melody
Haunting the stage
Some bodies remain
Wandering the halls like ghosts
Looking for something
But with nowhere to go
After months of this emptiness
The rooms again fill with faces
Some are new, some are old
And some are remembered
Never to return to fill the empty halls
Or to find the melody that lingers
Off to new halls and new bodies
New paths and new opportunities
Of these few, only memories remain
Only yearbook messages and signatures
Only smiles held hostage forever
In wallet-sized squares
So goodbye, graduating seniors
Our hallways will be empty without you
Our music noteless
Our time together unfinished
Good luck as you take your first step into the unknown
