Vinyl
it seems like everyone is changing
and I’m staying exactly the same.
I’ve seen them in the cafeteria
you know who--They stand in line holding plastic trays
Talking away, talking away
But the words are all routine
and I’ve realized the funny thing is,
it didn’t use to be this way.
We were never the same,
but we shared glances across the room.
we shared late night ideas staring at
posters on the ceiling of the bands we used to listen to
when we danced in my room, shaking the floors
watching the vinyl spin atop my dresser drawers
but I left the records against my radiator
and they melted into a mess.
it seems like everyone is changing
and I’m staying exactly the same
in a year we’ll all be out of this town
most are sad to leave their roots
but I’m sadder because my roots
were already pulled from the ground.
